Music for Russian Warriors

It’s been reported that Syrian state TV has started playing Russian songs to buck up their troops, and remind them of Russia’s ‘angels’ on their shoulders as they ride into decisive battles ahead. For RogueMoney subscribers, here are the music and lyrics to a few ‘battle’ songs that are extremely popular in Russia…

The first by the patriotic Russian rock band Lyube is called “Let’s toast (to life)”. Almost every Russian servicemen if not all of them deployed to Syria right now knows this one, many by heart…

English translation of lyrics and Cyrillic transcribed into Latin alphabet

War and na nanana.. War and nananana

With grey clouds the sky is veiled
Nerves tensed as guitar strings
Rain drumming from morning to night
Frozen time seems an eternity
We assault from all directions
Tanks, infantry, artillery’s fire
They are killing us, but we’re surviving
And once again, we throw ourselves in an attack…

A toast to life, come on brother, until the end
A toast to those, who were with us back then
A toast to life, come on brother, until the end [of the war]
We’ll remember those who were with us back then

The sky above us, in leaden clouds Lies low in cold mists
We’d like to believe that everything’s over
If only the wounded comrade could survive
Wait up bro, don’t die yet
You will live long and happily
We will dance at your wedding
And you’ll raise your kids up to the sky

A toast to life, come on brother, until the end
A toast to those who wait for you at home
A toast to life, come on brother, until the end
A toast to those who wait for you at home

A toast to them, a toast to us
To Siberia and to the Caucasus
[a common Russian drinking toast, Sibir, Kavkaz, VDV y spetsnaz– JWS]

To the lights of far-away cities And to friends, and to love
A toast to them, a toast to us And to the Paras [VDV], and to the Spetsnaz
To war honors
Come on, lets raise it, friend

A toast to life, come on brother, until the end
A toast to those, who were with us back then
A toast to life, come on brother, until the end
We’ll remember those who were with us back then

A toast to life, come on brother, until the end
A toast to those who wait for you at home
A toast to life, come on brother, until the end
A toast to those who wait for you at home

In old album, I found a picture Grandpa, what a man
commander of Red Army Signed “For son to remember, Berlin 1945”
Passed century flashbacks, the smell of unmowed grass at dawn
Moans of scorched earth from bombardments
Pair of old soldier’s boots
New wars will replace the old ones

A toast to life a toast to those a toast to life
Let’s remember those who were with us

[Translator’s note (not from JWS) “Davai Za” can be translated as many things. “Let’s do it for”, “Do it for” or “Let’s drink to”. I decided to go with the last one because it just felt right for this song.]

The second ballad is from the late 1980s called “Cuckoo” (Kukushka), written by the band Kino (Cinema) and performed by Viktor Tsoi and recently covered by numerous Russian artists, including EuroVision 2014 runner up Polina Gagarina. The lines about the brave who stood in the field and died is a reference to the 14th century Battle of Kulikovo Field, in which Prince Dmitry Donskoi’s forces fought a huge Mongol-Tatar army and defeated it — at great cost.

This version of the song is by popular female Russian rock star Zemfira — the video depicts the 1st and 2nd Chechen wars Russia fought in the 1990s and 2000

Translated lyrics of “Kukushka”

Songs of mine that I’ve yet to write. How many?
Tell me cuckoo, count them for me.
The city or the village – where am I to live?
To lie as a stone, Or burn as a star, a star?

Sunlight of mine, break through the dark.
See my palm has turned to a fist.
And if you have powder, give me a spark…like that.

Who will now take the lonely path?
The strong and the brave, stood firm in the field…and died
Few still remember, with clear mind, and a firm hand,
stand in the ranks. Our ranks.

Sunlight of mine, break through the dark.
See my palm has turned to a fist.
And if you have powder, give me a spark…like this

Where are you now, freedom of will? With who are you now
greeting the tender sunrise? Answer me!
Life is good with you, and bad without you.
My patient head, and submissive shoulders, under the whip.
The whip…

Sunlight of mine, glance now at me. See my palm has turned to a fist.
And if you have powder, give me a spark. Like this

Песен еще ненаписанных, сколько? Скажи, кукушка, пропой. В городе мне жить или на выселках, Камнем лежать или гореть звездой? Звездой.

Polina Gagarina music video version of “Kukushka” from the film trailer of “The Battle of Sevastopol” (Битва за Севастополь) a 2014 film that was in production in Crimea using both Russian and Ukrainian film crew well before the return of the peninsula to Russia. The film is based on the life of Lyudmila Pavlichenko, one of the deadliest snipers of all time and probably the deadliest female sniper in combat. Pavlichenko was credited with killing 309 German officers and soldiers during WWII and received the highest USSR commendation, Hero of the Soviet Union.

To conclude this post, we include a cover of Vladimir Vysotsky, a beloved Russian artist whose ballads at times subverted the Soviet authorities and who died young in the early 1980s. Vysotsky’s song is about the difference between imaginary childhood battles versus proving one’s self in combat. It is in short, about growing up and experiencing the pains of life, even if one is lucky enough not to see buddies get killed on some battlefield. Which is a very Russian way of saying — there is no living without tragedy. Perhaps something the ‘West’ after so many decades of comfort and spoiling forgot and will re-learn the hard way, as war is the natural fallen state of man.

My White Russian Floridian friend the Saker expressed it this way:

Today Tatzhit Mikhailovich posted on his Youtube channel the “Ballad about Struggle” or “Bаллада о Bорьбе” of the famous Russian bard Vladimir Vysotskii.  This song literally changed my life.  I heard it for the first time when I was 17, it was played for me by a guy who ended up changing my life.  He quoted Ivan Solonevich to me and said “there are times in a country’s history when what a country needs are not more doctors, or engineers but people capable of doing two things 1) writing 2) using a firearm“.

That meeting changed my life, between Vyssotskii and Solonevich I was “hooked” and I became a fighter who wanted to make sure that I would prove (if only to myself) that I had read the “right books” as a kid.  I decided that I would struggle for Russia with all my might, heart and soul and honor those whose books I had read as a kid and whose blood I had in my veins.  To hear this song interpreted by a Novorussian militiaman is extremely moving for me and I want to share that with you.

The Saker

“Ballad of the Fight (or Ballad of the Struggle)” from an Internet compilation of Vladimir Vysotsky’s translated songs, 1975, as covered by a Novorossiya Armed Forces (NAF) soldier in 2014 (see the video above)

Amidst molten candles and sundown prayers
Amidst war trophies and fires of peace
Lived book children who knew no battles
Anguishing their minor catastrophies

Children always complain
of their age and their lot
And we fought until slain
And schemed mortal plots.
And our clothes were patched
By our mothers with haste
We then swallowed books
Getting drunk of the taste

Hair stuck to our sweaty foreheads
Phrases sucking air right out from our guts
And our heads spun by combat's fragrance
From the yellowed pages descending on us.

And attempted to reach
We who knew battles not
With a war-calling screech
Giving it all we got
Secret orders were passed
Borders suddenly sprang
What it means to attack
And war chariots clang

In the boiling pots of past battles and wars
So much food for our tiny brains
To the roles of betrayers and cowards
In our childish games were our enemies named

Villian's footprints weren't even
Allowed to cool
And to beautiful women
We promised amour
Having calmed our friends worries
And our families loved
To the roles of the heroes
We lead ourselves on

But we can't always run to the dreams in our heads
Short the century for fun - mostly pain lives on
Try to pry open the palms of the dead
And receive a weapon from their strained arms

And distinguish, acquired
A sword from the hearth
Put on metal attire
What's it worth? What's it worth?
Find out - are you a coward?
Or one chosen by fate
See a glimpse of your power
Give real battles a taste.

And when near by falls your wounded friend
And the world hears the howl coming from you
And when you're left skinless - this isn't pretend
Because they've killed him and not you

You will see, you will know,
Find out from within
From the grin that is shown
That is deaths scowling grin
Lies and Evil - look and find
How their faces are harsh
And always behind
Ravens, tombstones and marsh.

If you cleared your way with your father's sword
And your tears had dried leaving nothing but salt
If in heat of the battle found out what's what
Means your read useful books when you were only small.

If the meat from a blade
You did not eat a bite
And your arms folded - stayed
And looked down from a height
Entered not into battle
Against butcher and scythe
Means that life proved your mettle
You had nothing to give.

    1. It will be that way as long as humanity remains ignorant of Natural Law, and therefore brings in the state of chaos we see worldwide. This is the real ‘Law of Attraction’.

  3. Do you think the current military activities in Syria could trigger WWIII. It looks like an “accident” waiting to happen.

    1. Short answer: no to WW3. But we could see false flags, or Turkish military set up to shoot at the Russians or vice versa. I don’t think the Israelis will go for any sort of clash lest the Israeli Air Force’s reputation suffer due to major losses from Russian SAMs like the IDF’s did from the losses in the 2006 Hezbollah war in Lebanon.
We know that some Turkish ranking spies and generals discussed shooting at their own men guarding the Suleyman Shah tomb to blame Assad’s soldiers for it, so the narco-money fueled corruption in Ankara means that the lives of their men mean nothing to them. I hope and pray there are Turkish colonels if not generals who see the writing on the wall and can do what is necessary to prevent a clash with Russia that only benefits You Know Who, the merchants of death (MOD) and nobody else. If only for saving face and the Turkish economy even if they don’t care about their men, which I think at least some Turkish officers do. The old ethos of the Turkish Army as the guardian of Attaturk’s nationalist but secular legacy has to still count for something, right? As opposed to Erdogan’s neo-Ottoman agenda which is exploited by the globalists for their own purposes.

Washington will keep trying to fight Putin to the last Turk, Ukrainian, or Arab jihadi. Saker reader ‘Red Ryder’ is correct: the Pentagon which just gave orders to US pilots not to close to within 20 miles of Russian jets has no stomach for picking a direct fight with the Russians, in eastern Europe or the Middle East.

      1. This obsession with ‘World War 3’ and tagging it to every other Youtube video needs to be taken down a notch. We are talking about the successor to the most devastating single man-made event that dragged on for 6 years and marked a very low point for human intelligence and rational thinking in the mind of Man.
I want to ask everyone in here and by extension everyone in the world, do you really want such an event to occur? Because by keep bringing it up over and over again you are essentially at some level ‘praying’ that it happens.

Also those who take the Bible, especially the Book of Revelations in literal terms, be mindful of the saying, ‘Ask and you shall receive’. The Cosmic Universe can work in ways that manifest the events to occur, and you will be held karmically responsible for condemning all those around you in the process for the terrible things that will surely come with a global war.

It already happened with Evangelists supporting Bush’s 2003 invasion of Iraq believing this would expand into something worse and it will be their ticket to Rapture, causing Iraq to be returned to the stone age and 1.5 million dead Iraqis. These Evangelists are selfish bastards who instead of their idea of Heaven will earn literal Hell on Earth they deserve when the United States collapses as Karmic Retribution for its crimes against Humanity.

        1. SOF,
No sane person wants WW3. I think James is subconsciously projecting positive morale for the Russians who are shellacking the Langley-led REAL terrorist. And NO. I am not a Dr. Phil wannabe. Just saying..

The power of Conscious projection has numerous historical cases ( ie., 100s of Tibetan Monks chanting and focusing on a positive outcome ). Most people can not digest this due to slavish mental conditioning and closed-mind-ness. Understanding the “Red Pill” reality and option planning accordingly seems to be the best strategy IMO.

The truth shall set you free.

          1. Glad we are on the same ‘frequency’ here. As you probably sensed this was something that had been stewing in me for some time.
As Alex Jones said an the most long lasting revolutions were without blood shed and the government squads stood down rather than follow orders (like the fall of Berlin Wall). It shows we can make the choice to be better people and raise our consciousness.

I believe if we can rise above the animal consciousness to be where we are in Present Day, we can go even higher in wisdom to a new evolutionary level that today we would call ‘angelic’. The above rant was meant to make people realise that annihilation need not be our chosen path.

Anyways as The Russian Analyst alluded in the other thread of ‘Russia bombing our jihadists in Syria – Now what?’ we will close it here.

          2. SOF and the RMers,
I would be careful about the rantings of Alex Jones. He is controlled opposition.

          3. SJ — Brother Jones as we documented in our RM post Lowdown Dirty Psyops got snookered on the JadeHelm doomerism. It’s not that his reporters initially did a bad job going to the actual places where the Army conducts urban warfare drills or covering the testy public hearing in Bastrop, but I think they overdid the hype. And don’t even get myself or the rest of the RM brain trust started on Dave Hodges. Jones reporters also didn’t do a very good job on the Twin Peaks ‘biker cops shootout’ news which was actually a trigger happy cops story in their back yard which the fed biker gang and undercover cop provocateurs were up to their eyeballs in.

Nobody really knows what is happening or going to happen. Even the global elite.

This goes back to my ongoing ‘debate’ with my friend Wolf Gray regarding how the Eastern globalists would prefer a softer landing for the USSA, though the western globalists seem determined to piss them off with these ‘accident’ terror bombings on Chinese soil to change that calculus. It goes back to my thoughts in this RM article about how the Chinese like to think in five year frames, which apparently predates Leninism/Maoism by 2,000 years or so going back to ancient Confucian Qing dynasty administrators.

            http://roguemoney.net/2015/06/14/the-wolfgrayjws-russia-analyst-dialogues-how-much-time-do-the-banksters-have-left-our-view-the-east-still-holds-the-deciding-vote/

So for China an ambitious target would be having yuan as one quarter of world reserve currencies by 2020 (entirely possible), ideally exceeding one third of all transactions by 2025. As JW likes to say there are still some glitches to be worked out in the yuan/SWIFT replacement payment systems and establishing the swap mechanisms worldwide.

We also mentioned in that article the Sun Tzu doctrine of always leaving the enemy an ‘out’ — ideally a face saving way of accepting defeat. The Russians have adopted this whole heartedly which is why they keep asking the U.S. for a list of ‘moderate rebels’ for them not to bomb, knowing the U.S.A. can’t very well put Al-Nusra, Al-Shams or the Muslim Brotherhood Army of Conquest on that list without becoming a laughingstock. Now on Friday Ft. Rus reports there are supposed members of the ‘opposition’ in Syria opposed to Assad who say they are ready to talk to the Russians (probably ‘encouraged’ to do so by their patrons in Jordan and Saudi Arabia, if not in Turkey or Qatar — recall the Saudi/Jordanian/UAE talks with Putin back in late August where Vlad may have told them to have their proxies start talking about peace with Assad).

            http://fortruss.blogspot.com/2015/10/the-syrian-opposition-unexpectedly.html

Meanwhile the bearded tough guy jihadis are shaving off their beards and running like hell for the Turkish border and the next bus to Istanbul so they can make a break for Germany and the free s–t there (in this sense perhaps Merkel is, once again, managing to serve two masters in the western globalists and Putin who would just as well see many of Assad’s most committed Salafi enemies fat and happy on the German taxpayer dole). Well that happened fast!

So applying Sun Tzu’s maxims to the killing of the dollar, how do the Chinese let us down softly and allow Uncle Sam to save some ‘face’ while surrendering? Expect a follow through on the June RM piece for my friend WG soon.

  4. Erdogan is the worst. He has opened the door for ISIS requiring no visas for jihadi types, and is now hitting Kurds because he wants to win an election.
As for our so-called Commander in Chief, he is equally disgusting and yes, probably worrying about his “legacy”.

I hope and pray that Russia is successful getting rid of everything last one of those different terrorist organizations who are all the same, but call themselves different names.

Also hope this nasty Saudi regime who is now the head of the UNHRC ( what an absolute joke) fails miserably, but I have to say, I don’t like the idea that there is a theme of augmenting Shia dominance with the help of Russia and China. I don’t think Putin is necessarily in love with Shiite Islam, but he is an equal opportunity ally to nations that suit his strategic interests. There is a danger in this. I know some of the RM team thinks the Ayatollah is just fine, but I think time will tell as Iran advances.

The people of Iran, if they could over through this regime installed during the Iranian Revolution that would be another story, but it looks like we are seeing major prophetic developments in the region.

As of today, there is talk of a 3rd intifada. Not a happy time over there.

    1. Joyann — what’s pathetic about The Daily Beast‘s crude CIA propaganda is how you have to either be an anti-Russian fanatic, like John R. Schindler, or have a room temperature IQ with no memory of the past 13 months half-assed American bombing campaign against ISIS/ISIL as the terrorists EXPANDED their territory under supposed U.S. bombing, to believe it. Yet some people do:
      http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/10/08/russia-s-giving-isis-an-air-force.html?via=mobile&source=twitter

As for Weiss gloating about the TOW missiles, it’s to be expected that the CIA will try to hit the first spearheads of the Syrian Arab Army offensive hard. No surprises there. The gloating reminds me of the Ukrainian propagandists claiming — and having Reuters lying for them — that their troops were already in downtown Lugansk if not Donetsk right before the Russian-backed NAF counteroffensive dropped the hammer and the Russians wiped out Kiev’s 30th brigade with GRADs and arty on the border, collapsing the entire southern flank of the Ukrainian advance and opening the road to Mariupol in August 2014.

Being a military ignoramus and hack Weiss is probably unaware of why Russia is deploying so many drones and electronic monitoring aircraft over the battlefield, including pods soaking up ELINT on the modern SU-34s. The answer is that the al-CIAeda still think their satphones as encrypted (and thus perhaps not decipherable in real time) cannot be triangulated by the Russians to determine their locations. Wrong. The jihadis with the satphones are the ones Russian/Syrian/Iranian intel will determine are most likely to be the TOW delivery or ordering boys, and they get priority for Russian strikes with GLONASS guided 500 ib bombs. Weiss thinks his pet jihadis and alCIAeda are up against 1980s vintage Soviet forces in Afghanistan. Nope.

I also think we’ll soon see crude remotely piloted tanks or trucks rolling toward FSA strong points in a bid to draw TOW fire (Trojan Horse tactics), followed by a quick Russian air strike or thermobaric rocket launch at the areas where the TOW operators are to burn them alive. The new SAA offensive also seems to feature plenty of pickup trucks equipped with Russian ATGMs lighting up FSA/Nusra/AlQaeda positions which Weiss and co aren’t talking about since they don’t like admitting Russia can arm its proxies faster and with full air cover while a lot of Uncle Sam’s hardware is gonna get blown up by Russian bombs. Plus if Saudi Arabia is the main TOW supplier from their stocks as I understand it, don’t be surprised if a warehouse full of those blows up in the near future far from the Yemeni-Houthi front lines.

      https://twitter.com/vtchakarova/status/652213372801449986

I don’t see why SecDef Ashton Carter would be so pissed about the deaths of a few U.S. jihadi proxies at Russian hands unless those initial and cruise missile strikes also took out some CIA contractors who were ‘never there’. Remember the panic when the NAF and Russian ‘vacationers’ surrounded the Ukrainians at Debaltsevo? Jim Willie is right there had to be more than Ukrainians trapped in that pocket to explain the sudden urgency of Merkel and Hollande flying to Moscow for direct talks with Putin — without the Americans.

The other problem the FSA/AlNusra et al have that will soon be apparent besides ammo and fuel shortages at the front lines and no armor due to Russian air strikes is that a lot of their young lads are gonna say ‘screw it’ and head for the Turkish border and thence to Germany. It’s hard to convince guys to die for alCIAeda and Allah when they can start dreaming of free housing, food allowances and (they think ‘easy’) blonde infidel German girls.

Brings to mind those systems used in training to attack moving targets being used.
